The Mumblecore and American Independent Cinema

The essay aims at reading the cinematic wave called mumblecore as a symptom of the return of the real in the landscape of American independent culture. Such kind of cinema does not adopt an amateur, filterless and documentaristic sight (a stylistic configuration due to the use of home made technologies in order to gain a certain ‘proximity’), but a narration that focuses on minimal tales of everyday lives of twenty-something youngsters. These strategies can be then related back to the emergence of a new sensibility named new sincerity.
